Reduction Linocut Printmaking with Pat Snyder

.
In this workshop, students will learn techniques for the relief printmaking process using the flexibility and ease of linoleum. Since linoleum offers an easier surface for working, linocuts allow more precision and a greater variety of linear and textural effects.
Reduction Linocuts achieve multiple colors while using a single plate/block. The limitation is that there are a finite number of prints that can be made and that number is decided at the outset. Linocut printmaking can be very simple, and is an ideal medium for the printmaker without a press. They can also be taken to many levels from simple bold to extreme intricacy. There will be basic demonstrations showing methods for transferring the image to the plate, cutting with gouges and blades, and printing with brayer, baren and selected papers.
* The 3pm time can be extended if some students need extra printing time.
