Oregon Arts Education Network Artist

Guidelines and Application

For the roster occurring between September 2008 and June 2010

FINAL DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION ~ APRIL 30, 2008

This is not a postmark deadline, materials will have been recieved by the date above to qualify.

Purpose

The Oregon Arts Commission's Oregon Arts Education Network supports partnerships with regional and statewide artists and arts education organizations in order to achieve the following:

  1. Ensure the arts are an integral component of education in Oregon through partnership development, grants funds, technical assistance and communication; and
  2. Promote lifelong learning arts experiences for Oregonians through support to arts organizations

The Oregon Arts Education Network uses professional Artists in Residence to promote arts education in a variety of learning environments. The Oregon Arts Education Network supports professional development and arts education activities for education and artistic communities throughout the state.

Program Format

Artist residencies sponsored through the Oregon Arts Education Network are scheduled by the week. Artists provide approximately 20 on-site classroom hours per week, with up to 4 class meetings per day. The average residency request is for 2 weeks, but this number varies depending on the specific site's needs. Oregon Arts Education Network artists may work with pre-school through adult populations, including special education, at-risk and gifted populations, but the majority of residencies occur in elementary and middle schools. Additional services may include performances, workshops, teacher trainings and individually designed special projects.

The Oregon Arts Education Network encourages artists to develop residencies and other programs that support or enhance existing arts curriculum. Artists are also encouraged to develop staff in-service options, as well as follow-up activities or resources that may be left with teachers.

All artists must participate in a thorough pre-residency planning meeting with on-site coordinators and teachers in order to arrange orientation, class schedules and materials. This is considered part of a residency. A teacher must be present at all times during school residencies or other programs. Artists may be asked to help plan community outreach activities.

Review Process

Artists must apply individually to each of Oregon's Network Programs. Applications are reviewed by regional arts education coordinators for completeness and eligibility.  Eligible applications and accompanying documentation are reviewed by a panel assembled by each regional program.

Artists may apply to any Oregon Arts Education Network Program in Oregon. Deadlines vary, as does notification of acceptance.  Before submitting an application to a region, contact the appropriate coordinator for any regionally-specific application guidelines and information.
