Art Express

What is Art Express?

The Art Express is a program created for elementary school teachers to use free of charge in grades First through Fifth.  This service offers concise art-history based lessons which successfully integrate art concepts with core academic curriculum to assist teachers in meeting the Oregon Education Reform Standards and introduce students to experience art through project-based activities.

Volunteer teacher Cheryl Weese presents Art of Escher to First and Second graders at Green Primary School.  Students learned how to make a 3-Dimensional tetrahedron, illustrated by the children with metamorphoses of the life cycle of the butterfly.

Make a Reservation

By completing the on-line form and emailing it to UVAA with dates, we will reserve lessons you choose from the current Art Express catalogue. Volunteer Teachers will arrive at your classroom with all materials to provide a one-hour lesson in a variety of subjects. (For fuel conservation, please make arrangements to have at least two classes using this service on the same day.)

The Lessons

The lessons are introduced from the perspective of Art History and techniques associated with art historical movements.  The materials used vary from painting, drawing, small sculpture, clay and anything that is appropriate to stimulate creativity, visual literacy and individual expression in children. Instruction takes place in the classroom.

The Objective

The objective is to give educators unfamiliar with art history and associated techniques an opportunity to learn along with students. A complete catalogue of lessons is available as part of this webpage.
