Mary Eckman (Acrylic / Watercolor)
About the Artist
Mary is a teacher and an artist. She taught middle school art in Roseburg before moving on to focus on her family and own art making. She holds a BA in art, a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in art education and an Oregon teaching license. Additionally, Mary has taught art classes at Umpqua Valley Arts Center. She enjoys seeing the creativity children bring to art ad likes working with people. Her personal art focus is on acrylics and watercolors, but enjoys teaching many types of arts including drawing, painting, collage, basket weaving, beading, work paper cutting, book making and ceramics.

Overall Goals
- To have each student design, construct, and finish an art form.
- To have each student be proud of and feel good about their creation.

- To provide a fun experience and develop a deeper appreciation for art.
Staff Development
I can provide teachers with a variety of follow-up activities for their students after the completion of my residency. I can also offer information about the importance of art in education, which can be shared with school staff and/or community members.
Facility/Supplies
Watercolor – Supplies needed include watercolor paints, brushes and paper, water containers, paper for drawing and pencils, and black permanent markers (optional). Access to a sink is also needed.
Painting with Acrylics or Tempra – Supplies needed include paints, water containers, brushes, paper for the paintings, pencils, drawing paper and rulers (optional). Access to a sink is also needed.
Bookmaking – Supplies needed include 81/2" x 11" paper, large paper 12" x 18" or 18" x 24" or larger, rulers, pencils, colored pencils, scissors, glue sticks, mat board, and decorative cover papers. If older students are making pamphlet books, embroidery thread and tapestry needles are also needed. Access to a paper cutter is useful but not required.
Yarn Basket Making – Supplies needed include yarn, scissors, tape, coiling core, and weaving needles. Crayons or colored pencils and paper are also nice to have but not necessary.
Approximate Cost
$1.00 - $3.00 per child.
