Miwako Bagley (Visual Arts / Watercolor, Drawing and Origami)
About the Artist
Miwako is a Japanese-American watercolor artist who was born and raised in Hawaii. She holds a B.A.Ed. And a 5th Year Degree in Art Education and a B.F.A. She has been involved in education and the arts for over 25 years, having taught pre-schoolers to adults. She is currently represented by the Second Street Gallery in Bandon, the Soliel River Gallery in Bend and Sun River, and the Rick Cook Gallery in Port Orford.

Personal Statement
The arts and art education should be for all people, challenging and inspiring, and accessible.
Teaching Objectives
Watercolor Painting: To make watercolor fun and accessible by sequential, step-by-step instructions for brush handling skills, color theory, watercolor techniques, as well as some design and compositional approaches. Students will learn to manipulate brushes to paint lines, shapes, washes, and textures, when combined, will create floral paintings, landscapes, seascapes, and abstract designs.
Origami: To spark the imagination of students with the magical transformation of paper and folding, Japanese culture and history as well as simple Geometry. Lessons include the reading and translating of a Japanese story in the Japanese language. Students will also learn the history of paper folding.
Drawing: To develop the artistic eye by enhancing basic drawing skills using a variety of techniques. To develop pencil handling skills. Students will be exposed to various drawing techniques and approaches, such as line, contour, still-life, floral, portrait, abstract drawing, shading and perspective lessons.
Facility/Supplies
Watercolor Painting: Drawing paper, Tissue paper, paper towels, water containers, pencils, and watercolor paints (8 colors). Demonstration table, a chalkboard and access to water. Optional: Watercolor paper, masking tape, flat brushes, and corrugated cardboard.
Origami: Colored copy paper cut into exact squares (8X8), large drawing paper for demonstrations. We fold about 5-7 models per student per contact session. Demonstration table and a chalk/white board.
Drawing: Drawing paper, pencils, crayons, felt pens, soft erasers, and rulers. Demonstration table and chalk/white board.
Staff Development
Trained to model watercolor performance task. Offer teacher training as part of residency in watercolor, origami and drawing.
Home Stays
Not required in Douglas County.
