Thalia Truesdell (Fiber Arts)

About the Artist

Thalia taught kindergarten until she decided to pursue her love of weaving full time in 1986. She has participated in the Arts in Education and Very Special Arts Programs since then, enabling her to combine the best of two worlds—fiber arts and teaching. A self-taught weaver, her richly colored and textured land and seascapes grace galleries, homes and businesses throughout the USA.

Grade Levels

K - 9

Personal Statement

Fiber Arts covers a broad spectrum, and is by no means limited to weaving. My residencies offer something for everyone and guarantees success for all students. MY aim is to inspire students to experiment with an unknown medium in a new way, adapt when necessary, stretch their imaginations, and to encourage them to pursue their interests further.

Teaching Objectives

Students will participate in carding, spinning, dyeing, weaving, and felting. They will learn the skills necessary to create their own weavings and gain the confidence to continue on their own.

Weavings, books, and tools from around the world will help children discover the ethnic diversity of fiber arts. With the vocabulary they acquire to evaluate and develop preferences in style, texture, and form. The children will all apply artistic elements and learn some new skills, including problem solving, to create their own weavings.
