The Salmon Banners
About the Salmon Run Banner Project
The purpose of the Salmon Run public art project is the development and presentation of public artwork. Through a series of projects, the Umpqua Valley Arts Association has brought together artists from around the Umpqua Valley region to create salmon themed artwork for beautifying and enhancing the Roseburg area for residents and visitors alike.
The Salmon Run Banner project gathered and juried proposals from artists throughout the area for salmon themed banners to be hung from street poles in downtown Roseburg. The banners have been created by artists of all ages and depict salmon using a variety of mediums. 45 banners in all were created for the Salmon Run Banner Project
The banners were hung at the Umpqua Valley Arts Association on June 22, 23 and 24, 2007 during the Summer Arts Festival. The banners were then moved to their downtown Roseburg locations for the month of July. After their hanging in downtown Roseburg, Oregon, the banners were taken to the Roseburg branch of the Douglas County public library. After hanging for one month in the Library the remaining banners were shown at the Autum Harvest Festival in Stewart Park along side the 2nd anual Chalk Walk.
All banners can be viewed at www.uvarts.com/banners/ and can be viewed in downtown Roesburg, Oregon through the month of July 2007.
